History - Willys
October 6th, 2008 by Randy SlabeyWe have Willys used cars by owner for sale at bargain prices.
During the 20th century, there is one automobile company which was popularly known for producing military and civilian jeeps. It was Willys-Overland Motors. The company was founded by John North Willys who bought the Standard Wheel Company in 1908.
Four years later, he changed the name of the company to Willys-Overland Motor Company. During that time and for the next four years, Willys took a prominent place next to the Ford Motor Company as the largest automobile manufacturer in the US. From that year onwards, several classic or what is now known as vintage model cars dominated the automotive industry. In 1923, the Overland Model 91 was manufactured by the Wllys-Overland Motors. In 1931, Willys manufactured the distinctive designs of the Willys Six 97, which was a four-door sedan. The Willys Six four-door sedan was also manufactured that year. In 1936, the Willys 77 four-door sedan was manufactured. In 1941, the Beetle-like Willys Coupe Street Rod was made.
In 1953, the company was purchased by Kaiser Motors and the name was changed to Willys Motor Company. In 1963, it was again changed to Kaiser-Jeep Corporation, which signaled the end of the Willys era. However, the legacy of the Willy name in auto manufacturing remains up to this day.
