History - Cord

We have usually have Cord used cars by owner for sale at bargain prices.

Cord was a United States Automobile brand produced by the Auburn Automobile Company which started in 1929 and ended in 1937. The Cord Corporation was initiated by E.L. Cord and since he was interested and cultured in transportation the Cord was distinguished because of its advanced technology and streamlined designs. Although the Cord carried a great philosophy and that was to create an absolutely original and modern car that would turn out to be very marketable, it did not happen as it was expected to be.

But of course there was also a good part in the history of Cord Corporation and it was the innovative front wheel drive. “The New Cord Front Drive” gave America the only front wheel drive in the 1930s and the effect of this innovation resonates until the present time. The influence of Cord with its competitors was seen in their products like the Oldsmobile Toronado of GM, Cadillac Eldorado, and in other personal luxury cars.

The Cord L-29 on the other hand earned prizes in competitions because of its drive system and special bodies built, defeating in the market the Ruxton automobile for a while. The Cord Model 810, when it was supercharged created a stir at the 1936 New York Auto Show.

Nonetheless, the Cord was not able to avoid its demise due to problems like slipping out of gear and vapor lock and the production of the Cord ended. But, at present there is still an attempt to revive and re-market Cord models.
